 The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization hosted a Caribbean Sub Regional Workshop on Critical Management of Respiratory Diseases in Port of Spain, Trinidad 5-7 April, 2011

 

          The goal of the workshop was to improve the critical care management of severe influenza infection, as well as other acute respiratory infections that present with severe pneumonia, acute lung injury, sever sepsis or septic shock.  The target audience of the training was clinicians working in intensive care units (ICUs)at either the district hospital or tertiary hospital levels.  This course will also build on the concepts of infection prevention and control in mechanical ventilation.

 

          The facilitators were Dr. Janet Diaz, World Health Organization Global influenza Program from Geneva and Dr. Valeska Stempliuk, IR/AMR from Washington, D.C. and additional experts from the Region and country office.  The training materials have been developed by the WHO Global Influenza Program and learning methodology is based on clinical problem solving. A total of 12 participants from five hospitals in Trinidad and Tobago participated.
