March 2011 – A new UN panel of experts report examining the impact of a green economy
transition underscores the links between the economy and environment to achieve sustainable development, but argues that the equity dimension must also be part of the equation.
Prepared by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), UN Environment
Programme (UNEP) and UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the report was presented at second UN Conference on Sustainable Development Preparatory Committee Meeting in New York this month. The publication, "Report by Panel of Experts on The Transition to a Green Economy: Benefits, Challenges and Risks from a Sustainable Development Perspective", contains three papers.
The first one, by José Antonio Ocampo, a professor at Columbia University, looks at the macroeconomic policy implications of the transition to the green economy.
