GSSD Expo 2012 – Solution Exchange Forum on Energy, Climate Change and Health, Youth and Women
PAHO/WHO was one of over 20 UN agencies and partners that participated in the 2012 Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo held in Vienna, Austria the 19-23 of November. The event was hosted by UNIDO with a theme of ‘Investing in Energy and Climate Change: Inclusive Partnerships for Sustainable Development.’ PAHO/WHO, together with UNFPA and UN Women, organized a Solutions Exchange Forum to share successful solutions addressing Energy and Climate Change and its effects on Health, Youth, and Women. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in partnership with the Inter-American Center for Social Security Studies (CIESS) and the Latin American Academy of Medicine for Older Adults (ALMA), is now enrolling students for the English Specialization in Health Management for Older Adults that will begin this May, 2013. The Specialization is an online course aimed at current professionals interested in managing health programs and services for older adults. The introductory module will be taught in-person, while the remaining six modules will be conducted virtually through the MOODLE platform of PAHO’s Virtual Campus in Public Health.

“From February 20-23, the Third Africa-South America Summit (ASA) was held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The event was a follow-up meeting to two others held in Nigeria in 2006 and Venezuela in 2009.
This event enjoyed the participation of 63 governments from both continents including twenty heads-of-state from Africa and five from South America. The summit was held under the theme: ‘Strategies and Mechanism to Promote South-South Cooperation.’
The summit adopted the Malabo Declaration containing a number of resolutions aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two continents. The deliberations also resulted in the establishment of a presidential committee which will be the decision-making organ between the gatherings that are held every three years. ..”

The project EUCARINET, is a four-year INCONET Coordination Action whose main goal is to strengthen bi-regional sustainable policy dialogue on Science and Technology (including in the ICT field) between EU Member and Associated States and the Caribbean Region, the Caribbean ACP countries, the overseas departments, and the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs). The consortium will run under the coordination of APRE with the following partners: MENON, CIRAD, EGL, UAB, CARICOM, UWI, UAG, UNIBE, CITMA, UNA. It will cover the whole Caribbean, with partners in Italy, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Spain, Guyana, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Netherlands Antilles.
The main goal of the project is to establish a long lasting sustainable bi-regional multi-stakeholders policy dialogue on S&T at policy, programme and institutional (research entities) level, thus contributing to a threefold objective:
- Create the conditions of the sustainable multi-stakeholders policy dialogue on S&T between the European Union, its member states, its associated states and the Caribbean Region, leading to a joint definition of S&T co-operation policies;
- Foster interregional (UE-Caribbean) and intraregional cooperation in leading to the identification and prioritization of common research areas of mutual interest and benefit;
- Stimulate and support the participation of the Caribbean research stakeholders in FP7, with a first emphasis on the “People Programme”.
