(English) Now enrolling students for the English Specialization in Health Management for Older Adults

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in partnership with the Inter-American Center for Social Security Studies (CIESS) and the Latin American Academy of Medicine for Older Adults (ALMA), is now enrolling students for the English Specialization in Health Management for Older Adults that will begin this May, 2013. The Specialization is an online course aimed at current professionals interested in managing health programs and services for older adults. The introductory module will be taught in-person, while the remaining six modules will be conducted virtually through the MOODLE platform of PAHO’s Virtual Campus in Public Health.

We are currently producing the 2nd edition of the Art of Knowledge Exchange Planning Guide Book – a practical guide for Knowledge Exchange Practitioners. In this new edition we want to showcase practitioners’perspectives from around the world: what worked, what didn’t, and what you would have done differently.

Who can particiapte?
participate if you have…

  • Connected development practitioners to new information and opportunities within countries, across countries, and regions
  • Encouraged innovation and sharing of practical experience
  • Inspired collaboration between development actors
  • Facilitated new methods for capacity development
  • Catalyzed the way other practitioners do development

If you are a development practitioner, work for an international organization, philanthropic organization, non-governmental organization, educational institution or a private sector foundation/institution, you may apply.

What is in it for you?
A number of these good practices will be profiled (in part or fully) in the new edition of the World Bank’s Art of Knowledge Exchange Planning Guide Book. “Con la cooperación triangular en auge, muchos gobiernos de América Latina y el Caribe están revisando los criterios y elementos clave para gestionar esta modalidad innovadora. Debatiendo experiencias nacionales y revisando propuestas de acción concretas, 21 profesionales de autoridades de cooperación de 15 países se encontraron el 4-6 de diciembre de 2012 en San Salvador para debatir los avances y retos para la gestión de la cooperación triangular en Iberoamérica. El taller fue una actividad enmarcada en el Programa Iberoamericano para el Fortalecimiento de la Cooperación Sur-Sur, en coordinación con el Viceministerio de Cooperación para el Desarrollo del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de El Salvador …”

(English) Third Africa-South America Summit (ASA) held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea (February 2013)

South-America-Africa-Summit logoAccording to Abayomi Azikiwe, reporting for the Pan-African News Wire for Global Research on March 04, 2013:

“From February 20-23, the Third Africa-South America Summit (ASA) was held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The event was a follow-up meeting to two others held in Nigeria in 2006 and Venezuela in 2009.

This event enjoyed the participation of 63 governments from both continents including twenty heads-of-state from Africa and five from South America. The summit was held under the theme: ‘Strategies and Mechanism to Promote South-South Cooperation.’

The summit adopted the Malabo Declaration containing a number of resolutions aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two continents. The deliberations also resulted in the establishment of a presidential committee which will be the decision-making organ between the gatherings that are held every three years. ..”

(English) EUCARINET: Connecting Caribbean and European Researchers, Policy Makers and Stakeholders in Joint research Actions

According to EUCARINET:

The project EUCARINET,  is a four-year INCONET Coordination Action whose main goal is to strengthen bi-regional sustainable policy dialogue on Science and Technology (including in the ICT field) between EU Member and Associated States and the Caribbean Region, the Caribbean ACP countries, the overseas departments, and the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs). The consortium will run under the coordination of APRE with the following partners: MENON, CIRAD, EGL, UAB, CARICOM, UWI, UAG, UNIBE, CITMA, UNA. It will cover the whole Caribbean, with partners in Italy, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Spain, Guyana, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Netherlands Antilles.

The main goal of the project is to establish a long lasting sustainable bi-regional multi-stakeholders policy dialogue on S&T at policy, programme and institutional (research entities) level, thus contributing to a threefold objective:

  • Create the conditions of the sustainable multi-stakeholders policy dialogue on S&T between the European Union, its member states, its associated states and the Caribbean Region, leading to a joint definition of S&T co-operation policies;
  • Foster interregional (UE-Caribbean) and intraregional cooperation in leading to the identification and prioritization of common research areas of mutual interest and benefit;
  • Stimulate and support the participation of the Caribbean research stakeholders in FP7, with a first emphasis on the “People Programme”.
