Welcome to the Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS)

     The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) assists the countries in the Americas implementing the Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS), to monitor health-related risk and protective behaviors among students 13 to 15 years of age, grouped under the following categories: 

  • Alcohol
  • Physical Activity
  • Diet
  • Protective Factors
  • Drugs
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • Hygiene
  • Tobacco
  • Mental Health      
  • Violence and Unintentional Injuries

     The GSHS is part of a global surveillance system developed by WHO in collaboration with UNICEF, UNESCO and UNAIDS, with technical assistance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

By May 2012, data from the GSHS will also be made available to users of iPad, iPhone and iTouch mobile devices.

Fighting overweight, excessive salt consumption, lack of physical activity, and the use of tobacco and alcohol to avoid that today's youth become the future patients with diabetes, hypertension, heart and respiratory condition and cancer.
