About Faces Voices Places
The Latin American region continues to have among the worst health inequities in the world. Particularly at the national and sub-national level, income disparities, and other social determinants of health create environments which foster the unequal distribution of disease among certain vulnerable populations and communities. These communities are often invisible in national statistics and are therefore not seen in nationally measured goals such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In 2006, the Faces, Voices and Places initiative (FVP) was launched by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) with the goal of advancing the MDGs within the most vulnerable communities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

About YPP

The Young Professionals for the Millennium Development Goals Program

The Young Professionals for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Program was established in order to document the FVP experience in the most vulnerable communities in the Americas, develop participatory diagnoses, and identify best practices for MDG achievement at the local level. The program gives Masters students professional field experience at the international and community level. While living in the communities, Young Professionals will document their experiences as well as those of the community through audio and visual mediums. This, along with local partnerships, is a way of representing invisible communities by giving them a face, a voice and a place in development.
