Second meeting of the Caribbean Consortium of Public Health Education Programs

The Pan American Health Organization Office of Caribbean Program Coordination convened the second meeting of the Caribbean Consortium of Public Health Education Programs on April 1, 2009. The goals of the meeting were to review and discuss examples of Consortia of academic public health programs developed to enhance public health teaching, service and research, to discuss the structure and function of the proposed Consortium of Caribbean Academic Public Health Programs, and to discuss the guidelines for membership and participation in the proposed Caribbean Consortium of Public Health Education Programs.
Attendees included representatives from the training programs at the University of the West Indies, the University of Technology, the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Northern Caribbean University, the University of Suriname, St. Georges University, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, and the Barbados Community College. CARICOM regional stakeholders in public health education also attended the meeting. These included the Caribbean Authority for Accreditation in Medicine and the Health Professions, the Caribbean Association of Medical Councils, the Regional Nursing Body, and the Caribbean College of Family Physicians and the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists. US-based stakeholders from the Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Harvard University and the Institute of Medicine also attended.
