This Road Map proposes a five-year framework to guide policies for planning and managing the Caribbean workforce and education for enhancing the skills of that workforce. The Road Map poses eight components, taken from the CCHII and the PAHO/Caribbean Country Cooperative Strategy, that are necessary for addressing the challenges facing the Caribbean health system; and it maps out 30 milestones to mark progress toward addressing those components.

The thrust of the Road Map focuses on broadening primary health care access in the region and enhancing public health competencies, as well as strengthening the HRH planning and management capacity of the countries and the region. Reaching these milestones will move the region forward in preparing their health workforce to meet the needs of an aging population and a growing incidence of chronic diseases.
