On Monday April 25th, 2011, the Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition (SNIHC), the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas, and the Ventanilla de
Salud, celebrated a program kick-off for the Nevada Infant Immunization Program in conjunction with the U.S. National Infant Immunization Week and the
Vaccination Week of the Americas (NIIW/VWA), the event was held at the Mexican Consulate.
Dr. Gustavo Iturralde, Technical Officer Health Promotion & Family Health for the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization
(PAHO/WHO) United States - Mexico Border Office, presented "Understanding the Mexico Vaccination Schedule in comparison with the United States" and
oriented health care providers about how to assure adequate vaccination for infants and toddlers coming from Mexico into the United States.
Dr. Iturralde oriented immunization providers about the vaccination schedules in both countries, ensuring adequate prevention of diseases in infants
and children that migrated from Mexico and settled in Nevada. The approximate 30 attendees were representatives of the coalition, healthcare providers
and professionals in the Mexican Consulate Ventanilla de Salud.
The presentation workshop was followed by the opening of the Health Fair and Press Conference with the intervention of Mr. Mariano Lemus (Consul
of Mexico in Las Vegas) Dr. Tracey Green (Nevada State Health Officer), Ms. Pam Beal (Executive Director and Southern Nevada Immunization Health
Coalition), and Ms. Sandra Jauregui (In Representation of Senator Henry Reed).
