Women's health and human rights: Monitoring the implementation of CEDAW

This concise publication highlights the strategic role that WHO staff members and other UN entities can play in promoting women's health-related human rights within the context of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). 

In addition to presenting an overview of the CEDAW, the protection and promotion of non-discrimination in women's health, and the treaty-monitoring process, the publication sets forth hands-on guidance regarding the steps WHO staff can take to promote the implementation of CEDAW and the realization of women's human right to health, including:

• Assisting States Parties with monitoring the status of women's health in their countries and building capacity to promote women's health 
• Assisting States Parties with preparing country reports to be submitted to the CEDAW Committee 
  Submitting technical information to the CEDAW Committee to assist with monitoring a State Party's compliance with the Convention 
• Contributing to the translation of the CEDAW Committee's health-related recommendations into effective laws, policies and programs that promote women's health
