At a meeting of the Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) at the regional headquarters in Washington, D.C., ministers and other authorities of Public Health of the countries of the Americas approved a strategy of action on newborn health, committing to develop plans for its implementation in their respective countries.

Member countries of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) pledged support today for a new PAHO strategy to fight cervical cancer, a disease that claims some 27,500 women's lives each year in the Americas.
