Learning to Love That Body is the theme of Caribbean Wellness Day 2009 being held on September 12.
The Minister of Health, the Walter Roban noted that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) heads of Government are concerned about the epidemic of chronic non-communicable diseases as well as the physical, economic and social burdens caused by lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, obesity and cancer.

BELMOPAN - Belize will be joining other CARICOM countries in observing Caribbean Wellness Day on Saturday September 12, 2009. On September 15, 2007 CARICOM Heads of Government met in Trinidad and declared the historic Port of Spain NCD Summit entitled “Uniting to stop the Epidemic of Chronic Non Communicable Diseases. It was at this summit that the second Saturday in September was declared “Caribbean Wellness Day” to commemorate this landmark summit.

PLANS ARE in high gear locally to celebrate the second staging of Caribbean Wellness Day on Sunday, September 13. Caribbean Wellness Day is officially observed across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region on the second Saturday of September, but will be celebrated in Jamaica this year on September 13 to facilitate the staging of a major health festival in Half-Way Tree square.

The Manchester Health Department observed Caribbean Wellness Day at Mandeville Park, Friday (September 11).
Persons were encouraged, by various health professionals, to manage and prevent chronic non-communicable diseases. The event also featured live demonstrations of gym exercises, sack races, squat competition for males and females, dance competitions and other forms of physical exercises.

GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands; Friday, September 11th, 2009 - Caribbean Heads of Government, in response to the heavy burden of chronic non-communicable diseases on the citizens of the region, issued the Port of Spain Declaration in September 2007 “Uniting to stop the Epidemic of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases” and declared that the second Saturday in September should be celebrated each year as Caribbean Wellness Day.
