Guyanese were afforded access to diabetes, blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) testing at the Stabroek Car Park yesterday, as the country joined other Caribbean territories in celebrating Caribbean Wellness Day.
Entertaining the large crowd, was the winner of the HIV/AIDS calypso competition, Young Bill Rogers, who encouraged Guyanese to “Put it On,” the theme song for World AIDS Day.

Learning to Love That Body is the theme of Caribbean Wellness Day 2009 being held on September 12.
The Minister of Health, the Walter Roban noted that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) heads of Government are concerned about the epidemic of chronic non-communicable diseases as well as the physical, economic and social burdens caused by lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, obesity and cancer.

On September 15, 2007 CARICOM Heads of Government met in Trinidad and declared the historic Port of Spain NCD Summit entitled “Uniting to stop the Epidemic of Chronic Non Communicable Diseases. It was at this summit that the second Saturday in September was declared “Caribbean Wellness Day” to commemorate this landmark summit.
