CD47 R18 Health of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas

This resolution adopted by the PAHO's 47th Directing Council in 2006, stablishes the need to address specific health needs of excluded populations, in order to achieve equity and better health for these populations.

CD37-R5 Initiative "Health of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas"

Adopted at the fourth plenary session, 28 September 1993

After the Document CD37/20: Initiative on "Health of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas"; it takes into account the recommendations formulated by the participants at the Working Meeting on Indigenous Peoples and Health, held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, from 13 to 17 April 1993.

 CD40.R6 Health of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas

Adopted at the eighth plenary session, 25 September 1997

Resolves:

1. To take note of the report on progress in the implementation of Resolution CD37.R5, to reaffirm the commitment to the goals of the Decade of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples, and to approve the activities proposed in Document CD40/14.
2. To urge the Member States, in the process of the implementation of health sector reform, to be persistent in efforts to detect, monitor and reverse inequities in health status and access to basic health services for vulnerable groups, including indigenous peoples.
3. To call to the attention of Member States that renewal of the goal of health for all requires that sustainable solutions are found to address the economic, geographic, and cultural barriers to adequate care for vulnerable groups.
4. To request the Director to continue his efforts to implement the Health of Indigenous Peoples Initiative.

CD47-13 Health of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas

This document lays out PAHO’s strategy to promote indigenous health over a period of five years. Four strategic lines of action are proposed: (a) To ensure incorporation of indigenous perspectives into the attainment of the MDGs and national health policies; (b) To improve information and knowledge management on indigenous health issues to strengthen regional and national evidence-based decision-making and monitoring capacities; (c) To integrate the intercultural approach into the national health systems of the Region as part of the primary health care strategy; and (d) To develop strategic alliances with indigenous peoples and other key stakeholders to further advance the health of the indigenous peoples.
