World TB Day, 24 March 2012:
"Stop TB in my lifetime" |
Introduction
World TB Day is recognized on March 24th, commemorating the announcement of a discovery by Dr. Robert Koch in 1882: the finding of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that cause TB. Since then, major advances have been made in the fight against this disease. Now we have the technology to diagnose it and the drugs to treat it. However, it still produces pain and death.

From Control to Elimination
For "World TB Day 2011" we will be in the second year of the biennial campaign "Innovate and accelerate efforts against tuberculosis”, whose goal is to inspire innovation in research and care of tuberculosis.
PAHO / WHO joins the global campaign and continues with the three official posters for the Region. The goal of World TB Day is to raise awareness of this disease in order to prevent and control it and thus provide a path for its elimination. According to the Global Plan to Stop TB 2011-2015, there is a strong commitment to developing rapid tuberculosis tests, shorter treatment regimens, and a fully effective vaccine to be placed on the market, thereby helping to shift from control to elimination. |
