This section will provide information on health services organization and management; as well as on tools and methodologies employed as part of the technical cooperation provided to countries within the framework of the initiative on strengthening health systems based on Primary Health Care (PHC).

Objectives: To validate the information from the series of managers’ meetings held in countries and provide a sub-regional perspective on the future of hospitals and the development of Integrated Health Services Delivery Networks (IHSDN); and to determine strategic lines for the Regional Agenda for Hospitals in IHSDNs from the perspective of the English-speaking Member States.

Dicho encuentro se realizó como parte de un programa de trabajo que ha elaborado informes técnicos, ha generado talleres nacionales de gerentes hospitalarios y ha apoyado la elaboración de un libro sobre el desafío de los hospitales.

As a contribution to the task of building and strengthening managerial capacity in health systems and services, improving the use of information and evidence for decision-making and action, PAHO provides the Productive Management Methodology for Health Services (PMMHS) and its support tools as an option for health services managers. The PMMHS is presented as an alternative that provides information for analyzing the relevance, efficiency and quality of healthcare provision, negotiation of management agreements (contracts) and costing and financing of health care services. Experts from recognized public health organizations will discuss healthcare competencies to propose a set of global healthcare competencies model that will help to health executives to use it in assessing expertise in critical areas of healthcare management. The competencies are categorized into five domains, and the main topics for the domains are as follows: The critical healthcare management competencies, Communication and Relationship Management, Leadership, Professionalism, Knowledge of the Healthcare Environment, and Business Skills and Knowledge.
