The PCPCD was initiated in 2002 with activities in TB management and control in indigenous populations in two departments (Amazonas and La Guajira) and as national support increased and results were successful, the geographic scope was expanded on a yearly basis as indicated in the timeline below.

Currently the Program is in 8 departments and is integrated with the IMCI strategy.
The project has achieved the following:
- Contributed to placing TB control in the indigenous population as a public health priority in Colombia.
- Promoted interinstitutional cooperation in the implementation of the DOTS strategy and other components of the Stop TB strategy and is a successful collaboration between the Ministry of Social Protection of Colombia, PAHO, and CIDA both at the national and departmental levels.
