Health Workers Killed in Plane Crash on Mission to Improve Maternal and Child Health

PAHO/WHO regrets to inform you of the death of workers from the Ucayali Regional Health Bureau (DIRESA) in Peru and the crew of the plane that crashed while on mission to set up a maternal and child health project for the population of the Iparia district.

The entire PAHO/WHO team wishes to express its condolences to the families and joins in the homage paid by MINSA, headed by Dr. Alberto Tejada Noriega, Minister of Health of Peru.

The victims, who were DIRESA-Ucayali staff, were: Dr. Luis Alberto Basagoitia Cárdenas, Regional Health Director, Nurse Maritza Tello Acho, member of the Support Program for Health Sector Reform, and Mr. Antoni Inuma Pisango, of DIRESA's Office of Institutional Image.
