The Technical Meeting for Creating an Enabling Environment for Population-based Salt Reduction Strategies, was held in London during July 2010.

This technical meeting was the first of a series of three meetings ogranized by WHO with the overall long term objective of producing a toolkit for Member States with practicalapproaches for effective population-based salt reduction strategies.

The objectives of this meeting were to:

1. Review the evidence of interventions that are cost-effective.

2. Review and discuss initiatives, policies and programmes which have been implemented as part of population-based strategies for salt reduction.

3. Review how the framework to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Global Strategy on Diet and Physical Activity could be used in the context of monitoring and evaluation of salt reduction policies.
