Each article in this series presents a proposed tool that can be used by those involved in finding and using research evidence to support evidence-informed health policymaking.

• Cochrane Library, a unique source of reliable and up-to-date information on the effects of interventions in health care. Health care in the 21st century relies not only on individual medical skills, but also on the best information on the effectiveness of each intervention being accessible to practitioners, patients and policy makers.

• “How to practice Evidence Based Health Care”. This yearly workshop teaches how to critically appraise and use the evidence when making decisions. Targeted to different audiences including policy makers, health care providers, journalists, patient advocates and health experts it is offered every year in July in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado, USA.

• Health Research Policy and Systems. An open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that aims to provide a platform for the global research community to share their views, findings, insights and successes.

• Implementation Science  An open access, peer-reviewed online journal that publishes research relevant to the scientific study of methods to promote the uptake of research findings into routine healthcare in both clinical and policy contexts.

• Support Tools for Evidence-Informed Health Policy Making (STP)A series of 18 articles written for people responsible for making decisions about health policies and programs and for those who support these decision makers.  Originally published in: Health Research Policy and Systems 2009.

• Effective project planning and evaluation in biomedical research (EPPE) A trainers’ manual developed for the Train-the-Trainer program and intended to enhance the research project management skills of researchers in developing countries. The manual addresses the need for strong organization, planning and management of projects—especially important in today’s biomedical research that is conducted by teams of specialists working in different locations, in different organizations and with different tasks. • Systematic Reviews for health systems evidence. A collection of 1500+ systematic reviews relevant to public health policy and implementation.
