Guide to psychological first aid in disasters

The World Health Organization publication Psychological first aid: Guide for fieldworkers offers advice to first responders on how to provide psychosocial assistance following high-stress events. The guide, launched in 2011, was co-published by WHO with the War Trauma Foundation (WTF) and World Vision International (WVI).

The guide provides practical guidance for humanitarian workers on how to support people during crisis events in ways that respect their dignity, culture and abilities. The publication emphasizes protection of children and adolescents, people with disabilities, and groups at risk of discrimination or violence and includes advice for distressed relief workers themselves.
