| Pedestrians are the Most Affected by Traffic Accidents, Causing 5 Million Injuries per Year |
Pedestrians are the most affected by traffic accidents. In the Americas accidents cause 140,000 deaths per year, leaving some 5 million injured.
On the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, held
on November 18, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health
Organization (PAHO/WHO) calls for the adoption of traffic laws and
enforcement of speed limits, and the establishment of limits and
controls for alcohol consumption, and the development of urban planning
policies that favor walk friendly communities, among other measures to ensure safety.
