World Heart Day: Cardiovascular Diseases Cause 1.9 Million Deaths a Year in the Americas

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world and in the majority of the countries of the Americas, where they cause 1.9 million deaths per year.   However, a high proportion of these diseases can be prevented with a healthy diet, physical exercise and by avoiding tobacco, among other measures.
