28th Pan American Sanitary Conference Opens Today at PAHO Headquarters

Emphasizing the need to reduce disparities to improve health in the region and trying to maintain the achievements of the Americas, the 28th Pan American Sanitary Conference was inaugurated this September 17 at the headquarters of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Washington, DC.

Ministers of health from across the Americas will meet until 21 September to discuss health policies in the region, selecting the next Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau, the Secretariat of PAHO, and receiving Health in the Americas 2012 Edition, a report updating the health situation in the region and in 48 countries and territories in the Americas.
