In the context of the Gender Strategy, and the Gender PAHO Policy approved in 2005, the Gender, Women and Health Department of WHO is coordinating a leading a global evaluation of gender mainstreaming. A baseline assessment was carried out in 2008, as the first part of the evaluation, to be followed by a midterm assessment in 2010, and a final evaluation in 2012.

The evaluation aims to understand how WHO’s HQ, and the five regional offices, are addressing gender equality, and to report on advances in the implementation of global gender equality strategies and regional policies.
