PAHO is currently searching for a highly qualified Manager, Health Systems based on Primary Care, who will be responsible for developing sound technical programs that develop and strengthen Primary Health Care based Health Systems, health policies, health services and programs, technologies and medicines, health investment and financing, and development of human resources for health. This post will support country and territory capacities, facilitate inter-country networks and cooperation, and implement and evaluate inter-sectorial approaches.
Work requires the incumbent to provide orientation, plan, coordinate, and direct the accomplishment of diverse and complex objectives through overall leadership and management of large professional staff, control of a large proportion of the Organization’s financial resources and the planning and implementation of far reaching innovations to policies, processes and strategies. Work requires interpretation of resolutions of WHO and PAHO Governing Bodies and the review and approval of work plans and activities. The incumbent plays a significant role in political, technical and managerial fields by acting as liaison across the Organization, as well as with other national and international actors.
This position is graded at the D-1 level and is based in Washington, DC.
The successful candidate will have a university degree in health or social science and a master’s degree in health management, public health, international affairs or a related discipline fro a recognized university. The incumbent must also be fluent in both English and Spanish and have fifteen years combined national and international experience in progressively challenging managerial positions, working in the fields of public health, health systems and services, health programming and human resources development.
