Life expectancy at birth reflects the overall mortality level of a population. It summarizes the mortality pattern that prevails across all age groups in a given year.

This interactive map visualizes the Life Expectancy at Birth (LEB) in countries of the Americas. It includes LEB by total population and by sexes. Selecting one or more countries, a time series of the selected indicator from 1997 to 2012 will be displayed.

All countries of the Americas present an increased trend in LEB but an important difference prevailed in the region having Haiti with 62 years -the wost situation in the region- and Canada with 81 years of LEB leading this indicator in the region in 2011. A difference of 19 years between worst and best situations.
