• Opportunity for funding from the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR)

The CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health and its partners announce a strategic initiative entitled "Programmatic Research to Tackle Health and Health Equity". The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support programmatic operating grants in population and public health research. Programmatic research involves connected sequences of conceptually related research projects, executed by the same group of investigators and their decision-making partners. This initiative will support programs of research in the following areas: 1) pathways to health equity, 2) population health interventions, and 3) implementation systems for population health interventions in public health and other sectors. For more information on these themes, please consult the IPPH Strategic Plan (2009-2014).

• ERACOL is a European Community initiative primarily aimed at achieving sustained improvement in knowledge, teaching and research skills in the public-health sciences in Latin America. It attempts to forge lasting links not only between the European and Latin-American partner universities, but also between and within the EU and Latin America. Eventually, participants return to their home countries with knowledge and skills that enhance employability. For more details, the article is available here.

• The guidance, known as the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) Statement, was first published in 1996 and revised in 2001. It includes a checklist to help authors write reports of randomized controlled trials so that others can judge the reliability and validity of the results. • The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) is accepting applications to their 12-month career development fellowship on Clinical Research & Development.  Candidates who are currently working on tropical disease research in developing countries will be selected and paired with relevant partners receiving specialized training to later be applied to their home institutes.  For more details, we have provided the announcement which is available in both English and French.
