Summary of the current situation

As of 6 July 2009, a total of 69,328 confirmed cases of the pandemic H1N1 2009, including 414 deaths, have been notified in 30 countries of the Americas.

The following overseas territories have confirmed cases of pandemic H1N1 2009: Puerto Rico, U.S. Overseas Territory (18); Virgin Islands, U.S. Overseas Territory (1);  Bermuda, UK Overseas Territory (1); Cayman Islands, UK Overseas Territory (14); British Virgin Islands, UK Overseas Territory (2); Martinique, French Overseas Community (3); Guadeloupe, French Overseas Community (2); Saint-Martin, French Overseas Community (1);  Netherlands Antilles, Curaçao: (8)a; Netherlands Antilles, Aruba (13); Netherlands Antilles, St. Eustacius (1); and Netherlands Antilles, St. Maarten (7).

WHO is not recommending any travel restrictions related to the pandemic H1N1 2009.

a Three confirmed cases were registered on a cruise ship.

In the Americas Region, there were additional 3,433** confirmed cases and 27 deaths compared to July 3.

Guyana notified it’s first two cases caused by influenza A (H1N1)pdm.
