One of the missions of the Health Technologies for Quality of Care team of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is to cooperate technically with national blood programs in the Region of the Americas to ensure that they have sufficient quantities of safe blood to provide timely transfusions to all patients who need them, thus contributing to lower mortality and optimal patient care in Latin America and the Caribbean.
One of the missions of the Health Technologies for Quality of Care team (THR/HT) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is to cooperate technically with the National Public Health Institutions, regulatory agencies and the public health national laboratories of the Region of the Americas to ensure the continuous improvement of the laboratory services in the clinical diagnosis and epidemiological surveillance; thus contributing to lower morbidity and mortality and optimal patient care in Latin America and the Caribbean.

For more than four decades, PAHO/AMRO has accompanied and participated in the evolution of Health Technology and in particular Health Technology Management (HTM) in the region and has served as a repository for the institutional memory of this process. It has also been deeply involved with the countries’ healthcare improvement efforts, by supporting the organization of HTM programs and human resource education. The technical cooperation of PAHO/AMRO has been oriented to collaborate with the Member States in foster National Development and InstitutionalCapacityBuilding on Healthcare Technology and Physical Infrastructure.
