Today 9 August 2012 is observed as International Day of World's Indigenous People.  

The United Nations Secretary-General's message stated, that the focus of this year’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is "Indigenous Media, Empowering Indigenous Voices". In his address he stated that the indigenous peoples are using these powerful tools such as community radio television, video art, newspapers, internet and social media to challenge mainstream narratives, bring human rights violations to international attention and forge global solidarity.
