Looking to create an international nurse consortium

El Paso, TX, May 25, 2012 (PAHO/WHO) - Officials from several academic institutions on both sides of the border met in order to identify opportunities for collaboration and exchange. The Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez (UACJ) with the collaboration of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) United States-Mexico Border Office held the nursing policy workshop and meeting to create an international nursing consortium. The meetings took place from May 23 to 25, 2012 at the PAHO/WHO office in El Paso, TX.

The objective was to identify opportunities for collaboration and exchange between educational institutions such as the Arizona State University, the University of Northern Colorado, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Texas Tech University, the University of Texas at El Paso, the University of New Mexico, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Autonomous University of Chiapas and the University of Guanajuato.

In addition to the meeting, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs taught a workshop to discuss the importance of nursing policies. The outcome of the meeting includes the signing of a letter of intent for the creation of an international nursing consortium and the development of a doctorate in nursing taking into account the strengths of participating institutions and expectations for greater adherence from other universities.
