|
The objective of the workshop was to systematize local experiences and develop a contingency plan for addressing the determinants in order to plan actions based on evidence for pregnancy prevention among adolescents. During the two-day workshop, 45 health professionals reviewed the main local interventions to reduce teenage pregnancies on the border cities of the states of Sonora and Arizona. The main determinants identified on the border are: school dropout, unemployment, lack of education on parents, lack of coordination between health and education sectors, reluctance to use birth control, among others. At the end of the workshop, working groups were formed and engage to carry out the strategic plan of action, create a committee led by the Health Secretariat and Education to monitor strategic plans and PAHO/WHO will facilitate the communication tools and information among participants to maintain contact and continue with the plans, as well as technical assistance for the development of intervention plans in accordance with the resolutions and action plans for adolescent health, child health and maternal health.
