World Day of Press Freedom 2012: Building ethical journalism and the role of media to prevent violence and injuries in Ciudad Juarez Thursday May 3rd, 2012 9:00 am-12: 30 pm Hotel Lucerna Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua The forum seeks to raise awareness on role of media and communications professionals in communication, media organizations and institutions play in violence and injury prevention. The forum will also announce a series of lectures and workshops that will be hold during the months of May and June 2012 where students, journalists, editors of local media, representatives of universities and civil society members will gather together and have the opportunity to enhance their journalism skills on ethics and public health focus. Some of the topics in the workshops and lectures are: ethics, freedom of expression and quality journalism; public health and journalism; organized crime and the media: how to manage information; ethics, communication and Human Rights, among others. In addition, to celebrate ethical journalism PAHO/WHO will open a call this May 3rd to recognize the best journalism that have helped to emphasize the core values and common realities on the U.S.-Mexico border region (El Paso, TX., and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua).
