Seeking to reduce the gap in mental health care |

As part of the strategy to integrate mental health into primary care in Ciudad Juarez, PAHO conducted a workshop with the mhGAP Intervention Guide where 38 primary care professionals from the Sanitary Jurisdiction II, Department of health, IMSS, General Hospital, Hospital for Women, and Freedom and Civil Hospital Coordinator addictions were trained. The objective of the mhGAP Intervention Guide is to prepare physicians, nurses, psychologists and social workers in primary care that can detect and track the most common disorders so they can reduce the gap in mental health care. Some of the topics that were discussed during this training were depression and other emotional disorders. ABOUT mhGAP The mhGAP Intervention Guide (mhGAP-IG) for mental, neurological and substance use disorders for non-specialist health settings, is a technical tool developed by WHO to assist in implementation of mhGAP. The Intervention Guide has been developed through a systematic review of evidence followed by an international consultative and participatory process.
