Cd. Juarez, MX, March 8, 2012 (PAHO/WHO) – To strengthen community centers in Ciudad Juarez, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) U.S-Mexico Border Office in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez (UACJ, by its acronyms in Spanish) through the Violence and Injury Prevention Project (VIP) held a workshop for health promotores in community centers during the week of March 2nd to 5th at the Central Library located at the UACJ campus.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The main objective of the workshop is to strengthen community centers that promote mental health and violence prevention in children and young people through health promotores because the ages between 14 and 18 years of age are considered conflictive social ages.
This workshop aims to train community workers so that they are able to create violence prevention groups and mental health promotion in the community, conduct activities to occupy the leisure time of children and young people within and outside the community centers, and instruct young people with basic techniques of job search and knowledge about the possibilities of self-employment, as well as explore the resources and options to seek further education.
During the workshop promotores learned about social risk factors such as drug use, delinquency, school dropout, sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy among other issues.
