San José, Costa Rica, October 26, 2011 (PAHO/WHO) – It is important to highlight and support the Health Promotion Universities’ work at an international level that is why the International Health Promotion Universities Network in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), and other organizations held the Health Promotion Universities V International Congress. The congress took place from October 4th to 7th in San José, Costa Rica.
The purpose of the Congress was to help develop a strategy for energizing the movement of Health Promotion Universities that promote healthy environment in Latin American universities in order to strengthen their roles as agents of change in the society.
During the 90s, within the “Healthy Environments” framework promoted by the World Health Organization, the American Consortium of Universities and Personal Training in Health Education and Health Promotion (CIUPS in Spanish) was created with the primary aim of promoting actions of human resource training in this field.
The International Health Promotion Universities Network organizes a congress once every two years allowing a significant representation of universities that are supporting this way of working in a space for exchanging strategies and strengthening of links.
During this occasion, Assistant Director, Dr. Socorro Gross, representative in Costa Rica, Dr. Federico Hernández, and other PAHO/WHO members represented the organization.
