“The development of the El Chamizal Ecoclub has helped develop leadership and team work among its members and it benefits the Chamizal community. Since this Ecoclub is the first one in the United States, this country is now part of the international network of Ecoclubs. It opens cooperation doors in America among kids, broadens their culture heritage and their vision of how the planet is growing rapidly,” mentioned, Dr. Gustavo Iturralde, Health Promotion and Family Health Consultant from PAHO/ WHO U.S.-Mexico Border Office. About Ecoclubs An Ecoclub is an independent organization, youth-lead and self-governing initiative within the Chamizal Neighborhood in El Paso, Texas. The Ecoclub in El Chamizal Neighborhood is the first in the United States and now is part of the network formed by 38 other countries. Their purpose is to improve quality of life, to contribute to the welfare of society, environmental preservation and sustainable local development. The Ecoclub promotes activities to help improve quality of life, contributes to the welfare of society, environmental preservation and sustainable local development. It has formed an international agreement with Ecoclubs in Mexico to cooperatively work to better the communities along the border: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila and Tamaulipas.
