- Earthquakes, among other sudden onset disasters, cause a large number
of traumas and disrupt the delivery of local health services. Those
services may become overwhelmed, leading to long delays before primary
care is received by victims; a situation widely reported by the mass
media.
In this situations it is essential that the health sector ensures an appropriate and timely response to damages and, provides plans and organization processes, and sectoral coordination. These plans should be structured and implemented in advance and involve the health sector institutions, seeking the best use of resources and complementary services. Therefore the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization United States-Mexico Border Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Sonora organized a workshop to discuss a model of hospital plan for disaster preparedness and response to be held on:

Safe Hospitals initiative seeks to allow proper planning, immediately after a destructive phenomenon of high intensity and / or naturally occurring, so the institutions can continue operating at full capacity and within the same infrastructure.
This effort will not only benefit the patients or disaster products. Primarily, it ensures the protection of the health professional who works in the hospital, providing the tools and techniques needed to respond appropriately during and after the adverse event.
About Hospital Planning Course for Disaster Response
PURPOSE: Provide personnel responsible for hospital management, the methodology and content enabling them to develop a plan for hospital preparedness and response to emergencies and disasters.
METHODS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: The participants will develop a hospital plan model for disaster response, by applying the methodology, working contents and equipment supplied.
