McAllen, TX, August 10, 2010 (PAHO/WHO) – The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization U.S.-Mexico Border Office in collaboration with our HQ Offices in Washington,DC are establishing a series of Partners Forum for Action on Chronic Disease with the aim of creating partnerships that cut across sectors and catalyze environmental, social, and policy changes that promote health and prevent chronic diseases. These Forums are part of PAHO’s Strategic Plan and is therefore highly relevant to all the countries facing this challenge, from South America to North America, from the Caribbean to Central America,embarking upon multi-stakeholder approaches.

Chronic diseases have become a serious health burden in the US-Mexico Border in which obesity, unhealthy eating, and lack of physical activity among our communities are contributing to worsen this problem.
Taking this into consideration, the US-Mexico Border Office of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is pleased to invite you to participate in the Border Partners Forum:

The main objective of the forum is to form alliances with multiple sectors and find asolution to this problem. Together we can make a difference, take action in preventing chronic diseases, and promote healthy lifestyles for the border.
Scope and Purpose
The aim of the Forum is to establish a partnership of interested border organizations and companies from a variety of sectors to discuss this opportunity for engagement in actions for the prevention and control of chronic diseases and promotion of healthy lifestyles.
The Border Partners Forum for Action partnership will play a leadership role in bringing good practices to light in the prevention and management of chronic diseases,healthy lifestyles, and supportive environments, and scaling up their application at all levels.
Specific Objectives
To increase awareness of the need to establish a public policy agenda to prevent chronic diseases and increase investment and action for relevant and innovative solutions;
To provide a forum for interaction, exchange of ideas and commitment to actions between governments,non-governmental organizations and civil society, international organizations and private sector;
- To provide a stage to share and disseminate good practices and create synergy between efforts;
- To stimulate mobilization of financial and non-financial resources and other partners;
- To catalyze, support and broker similar cross-sectorial partnerships at all levels.

Health organizations, PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centers, private companies, NGOs, and civil society organizations interested in prevention of chronic diseases and health promotion and journalists.
