PROJECT 2: HEALTH PROMOTION AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS

Goal Description:
To
increase and improve the quality of healthy life years and to reduce
the health disparities in the U.S.-Mexico Border Area, in accordance
with the Healthy Border 2010 Agenda.
Purpose Description:
To facilitate technical cooperation to the U.S.-Mexico Border communities
to strengthen health promotion capacities and the establishment of
intersectoral, interagency, decentralized and interdisciplinary
alliances, to promote healthy public policies to improve social
determinants of health and reduce the main risk factors.

2.1 Technical cooperation provided to
Border States to increase equitable access to vaccines.

One U.S.-Mexico common guideline for immunizations available supportive of border binational program coordination

Border wide immunizations campaigns will be implemented (VWA) in
support of the efforts of local and State health departments and border
outreach offices

2.2 Facilitate technical support to the Border communities to strengthen their health promotion capacities.

and other cross border collaboration initiatives strengthening
partnerships among departments of health and education to implement
Health Promoting Schools

Border Binational network of safe and healthy sister cities will be
established and will utilize the urban health conceptual framework and
stimulate healthy public policy

2.3 Determinants of health and social policies incorporated into PAHOs technical cooperation with partners.

Border Binational Cooperation Strategy includes explicit strategies at
the state and local level that address the social determinants of health

2 pair of sister cities are taking action to strengthen integrated approaches to determinants of health and social policies.

2.4 Provide opportunities and means for intersectoral collaboration to address social and economic determinants.

Border States for formulation of gender-and ethnic-sensitive policies and programs.

One Border municipality with local plans to specifically improve the health of ethnic groups with a gender approach.
