National Park Services and PAHO joined forces to promote youth leadership and environmental awareness

El Paso, TX, May 30, 2012 (PAHO/WHO) – With the purpose to formalize the partnership between the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) United States-Mexico Border Office trough the Ecoclub program and the Chamizal National Memorial (national park) and to engage children and youth in leadership, teamwork activities, and environmental awareness a Memorandum of Understanding was signed today at the Chamizal Memorial Esplanade.

The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding was to formalize this partnership which furthers the common goals of each organization to engage children and youth in leadership and teamwork activities and environmental awareness programs that encourage healthy, active lifestyles while connecting local communities to their natural and cultural heritage as part of Ecoclub program and the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” Initiative. "We have revitalization projects, recycling, fitness awareness, the soccer program, arts and crafts and field trips just to name a few. This is a great moment for the City of El Paso and the community," mentioned Courtney Niland, Representative for District 8th. 

An Ecoclub is an independent organization, directed and driven by the youth community. Promotes activities to improve the quality of life, contributes to the welfare of society, environmental preservation and a local sustainable development as well as training local leaders to identify, intervene and solve problems through active participation and involving the whole community: family, authorities, local and national organizations.
