We are committed to promote, from Venezuela Water and Youth Movement, an intense environmental health campaign pointed to familias who lives in rural areas, mainly in those border areas where their lives have seen difficulties because of the distance that separates them from the large cities that where governmental powers are centralized.
Our purpose is to promote, through the "Healthy Housing" program, a series of activities that allow the community to organize together with local governments, community councils and study houses, who wish to join this initiative, to achieve a higher quality of life and a good management of natural resources.
This campaign also contemplates extending their actions to other border areas, such as the Sierra de Perijá in the northwest of the country, and visit indigenous Amazonian communities affected by the pollution of rivers caused by illegal mining.
Note that the current political instability between the Colombia and Venezuela governments, has affected border areas that shares cultural, economic, social and historical roots, making it a priority to emphasize the constructive work that integrates these sisters lands, same Liberador daughters, now are divided by imaginary boundaries.
We are aware that, at present, the deterioration of environmental health and nature is one of the most important social problems in the world, but governments prefer to postpone the resolution of these problems and prioritize the consumption of goods and services, whose production processes contribute to the water sources pollution.
In fact, in the community of Delicias, Rafael Urdaneta Municipality in Táchira State, the lack of concrete actions by the authorities has resulted in epidemics (such as dengue, which has been deepened by the poor water maintenance), affecting not only to the Venezuelan people but also to Colombian territory because its proximity.
That is why our interest in developing a program that solves this problem and integrate the youth from Colombia and Venezuela, with special attention to the dispute between the two countries.
Thus, the project "Solidarity House" has been created with the primary purpose to educate to the border community about the importance of hygienic measures at home, providing information on environmental health and on the dengue and how to avoid it. The plan also considers the instructing with talks and workshops about citizenship issues and environmental responsibility, in the Rafael Urdaneta Municipality community, and also promote the integration of this community with the Santander Norht Colombia Department.
So, Venezuela Youth and Water, is expanding its presence and its actions in terms of awareness regarding to the care of environment, advancing steadily, to consolidate the Movement.
