The municipality of Verapaz (in the department of San Vicente, El Salvador) was one of the most affected areas. The mud- and landslides caused by Hurricane Ida's heavy rains carried away many houses and at least 19 persons in this municipality lost their lives. © PAHO/WHO

The external walls of Verapaz’s health center were directly hit by the mudslides and inside the building, flood waters rose to a height of 1.5 meters. The building itself and all equipment were declared a total loss. Work is underway to relocate the facility to a less at-risk area. © PAHO/WHO
