Lecciones aprendidas en salud del terremoto de Costa Rica

El 5 de septiembre de 2012 tuvo lugar en Costa Rica un terremoto de magnitud de 7.6 en la escala de Richter frente a la costa pacífica. Aunque no se registraron víctimas mortales, más de 300 comunidades resultaron afectadas y se reportaron daños en viviendas, puentes, red vial, acueductos, centros educativos y edificios públicos, entre otros. En cuanto a la infraestructura sanitaria, al menos 33 estructuras de servicios de salud sufrieron daños, entre las que destaca el Hospital Monseñor Sanabria de Puntarenas.

Regional Disaster Risk Coordinators and Communicatiors Meet at Risk Communications Workshop

The Regional Workshop on Risk Communications was held from 4-6 February 2013 in Panama. The objective was strengthening the capacities of professionals in the Regional Network of Communicators and members of the Technical Committee for Risk Management in the Health Sector (CTGERS) of Central American and the Dominican Republic.

Central American Plan for Risk Management of Health Emergencies

One of the first actions at the regional level of the Technical Commission of Risk Management in Central America and the Dominican Republic (CTGERS) has been the development of the "Central American Plan for Comprehensive Risk Management of Public Health Disasters and Emergencies, 2013 -2018". This plan brings together the strategic elements for regional work in the field of integrated risk management in the health sector, the areas to work on, and the operating plan to be implemented in 2013.

Health Sector Preparedness from Volcanic Eruptions

Most of the active volcanoes in the world are located in Latin America and the Caribbean, and millions of people live in villages and towns nearby. Throughout history, many of these volcanoes have shown great capacity for destruction. Therefore, the health sector must be prepared to face the risk from the location of population centers and health facilities in areas with volcanic influence.

Workshop on Information Management in emergencies with the Regional Health Communicators Network

In order to improve the capacity of communication professionals in the management of information during emergencies in Central America and the Dominican Republic, a workshop was held on September 6 in San Salvador dedicated to Risk Communication and Disaster Prevention. This event was part of the Regional Workshop for the Preparation of communication products organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic, SE COMISCA.
