Priority has been given to planning and coordination as a major focus of work. This is based on:
- Needs assessments;
- Promoting inter-sectoral food and nutrition strategies;
- Promoting multi-disciplinary, multi-sectorial coordinating mechanisms;
- Developing food and nutrition policies and plans of action;
- Building alliances with both the public and private sectors and collaboration with regional institutions, NGOs, international agencies and the mass communication media entities;
- Strengthening institutional dietetics services within countries with emphasis on schools and hospitals; and
- Mobilizing extra-budgetary funds for projects to address the priority needs of the countries.
