Granada, Spain, February 2012: Thematic Conference organized by the World Psychiatric Association and Wonca

Under the title "Mental Health and Family Medicine Professionals working together" the city of Granada will host the second Thematic Conference organized by the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) and the World Organization of Family Doctors (Wonca), 9-11 February 2012, with a view to strengthening the collaboration between the groups that share mental health care

Granada has successfully hosted four previous international mental health conferences. Andalucía is a region that has a strong background in mental health developments. GAISAM, an Andalucian research group on mental health (Grupo Andalúz de Investigación en Salud Mental), was created in 1987. The MARISTAN Network to promote cooperation in the mental health field between Europe and Latin America was developed in 1997; in 2008 the group became part of CIBERSAM, a Spanish network of Biomedical Research Centers in Mental Health.

This Second Thematic Conference provides an opportunity to share ideas through the presentation of original scientific research, participation in workshops, short presentations, posters and plenary sessions with the presence of international experts in the field of mental health, as well as service users.

The Conference has its roots in the experience that also took place in Granada in June 2008: the Thematic Conference of the World Psychiatric Association "Depression and other common mental disorders in primary care," organized in close collaboration with Wonca-Europe.

Mental health service users worldwide deserve the best possible care and interventions to achieve the best possible outcomes. The Second Thematic Conference will further strengthen the collaboration between primary and secondary care organizations working in the field of mental health for the benefit of those affected by mental illnesses, including their families and careers. The best possible outcomes can only be achieved thorough collaboration and working together.
