Bolivia and Ecuador: Final WHO-AIMS Reports

The final reports of the mental health care system assessments conducted in Bolivia and Ecuador using the World Health Organization’s Assessment Instrument for Mental Health Systems (WHO-AIMS) are already available on the websites of PAHO, WHO  and InfoCom.

The unprecedented information gathering was accomplished with the collaboration of personnel from the ministries of health and local PAHO offices. The technical review was conducted by PAHO’s Mental Health, Disabilities and Rehabilitation Program team in Washington, the Subregional Advisory on Mental Health for South America, in Buenos Aires, and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse of WHO-Geneva.

The information gathered will enable national authorities to make decisions for the development of community-based mental health systems. This data, taken as a baseline, can be updated periodically, thus making it possible to measure the progress in mental health.
