mhGAP training for PHC professionals in La Paz, Bolivia

From 28 to 30 November, 2012, the Health Promotion Unit of the Ministry of Health and Sports, through the Mental Health Department, organized a training workshop for primary health care professionals on the mhGAP Intervention Guide.

National Mental Health Head, Juvenal Aguilar Pacheco, reported that it was attended by representatives of different institutions in the country, as the Bolivian Society of Psychiatry, Bolivia’s College of Psychologists, the Departmental Health Service of La Paz, and the Bolivian police. Hugo Cohen, PAHO/WHO Subregional Advisor on Mental Health for South America, was also present at the event.

As a result of the event it is expected to establish a strategic alliance with major institutions working in the field of mental health in the country in order disseminate the use of the Guide at different intervention levels.
