Antigua y Barbuda: Workshop to develop a national policy on mental health

At the beginning of the year, mental health was placed high on the priority list of Antigua & Barbuda’s Ministry of Health. Within this context, technicians from the Ministry of Health, the Clareview Psychiatric Hospital and PAHO/WHO gathered at a three-day workshop in June to discuss and develop a working document that will form the basis of a National Mental Health Policy.

The workshop also focused on the development of a disaster preparedness plan in mental health and the training of participants in psychological first aid.

The Pan American Health Organization is actively supporting these processes in the Region. The seminar in Antigua was facilitated by Dévora Kestel, PAHO/WHO Regional Adviser on Mental Health.
